Auto manufactures have entered to build factories in the northern part of Fukuoka and Oita, which made the area the second largest automobile production in Japan after Nobi area. As the area is geographically close to Korean peninsula, China and Southeast Asia, trade and exports to Asian countries are thriving.

In addition, the area leads Japan in the output of seedlings and nursery trees and has a large production volume of strawberries and wheat. Fisheries are also thriving with cultivation of blowfish in northern part of Kyushu. Kagoshima is known for its sweet potatoes and pig farming (kurobuta or Berkshire pig).
