APU (Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University) opened in 2000 through the collaboration of Oita Prefecture, Beppu City and the Ritsumeikan Trust as a university aiming to nurture international human resources through its multicultural environment and bilingual education. With its implementation centering on APU, the Global Business Leaders Development Program (GBL Program) aims to cultivate business leaders who can link Japanese industry with the outside world. Fundamentally, this program targets international students with a high level of ability and a desire to gain employment in Japanese industry and provides consistent support from start to finish beginning with selection as students into the program, provision of scholarships and specialist education, right through to job seeking support. Consequently the program equips the students with the skills required to function in the Japanese industry while receiving the cooperation of 15 affiliated industries and cultivating the necessary abilities needed for Japanese industries to bridge the gap with overseas. The program instills the high level management skills needed by the future area managers and global managers of Japanese industry.
Students participating in this program take part in intensive study centering on courses unique to this program and participate in training sessions which include internships. Students are required to acquire a total of 140 credits to complete this course (124 are required for graduation).
The GBL program centers on the 17 affiliated industries and this university and targets students who wish to gain employment in Japanese industry directly after graduation. It is a program which utilizes the strength of skills and knowledge nurtured on APU’s multicultural campus.
