Advanced Educational Program of Career Development for MONOZUKURI (Manufacturing Engineering) based on Social Environment Model of University-Industry Cooperation

Outline of program
"Advanced Educational Program of Career Development for MONOZUKURI (Manufacturing Engineering) based on Social Environment Model of University-Industry Cooperation"
This program develops and implements education system for attractive human resources for manufacturing with consideration of co-existence with the environment who have business Japanese conversation skills and understandings for Japanese culture through highly specialized education and specialized common subjects under business-academia collaboration including case studies and long-term internship, aiming to the development of excellent human resources in Asia for the resolution of employment issues and globalization of manufacturing industries.
1. Program for development and demonstration of specialized education program under business-academia collaboration
Business-academia collaborative project promotion committee consisting of committee members selected by the university and corporate consortiums as well as staff employed for the implementation of this program shall be established to promote this program. Also, this committee checks the contents of each program and the consistency with other courses, aiming to the smooth operation of the program.
2. Business Japanese language / Japanese business education program
As Osaka University has already developed Japanese language curriculums for international students and materials for business Japanese language has also been developed (separately by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), effective education for business Japanese language based on these shall be implemented by the reconsignment to Communica Institute under the supervision of the teaching staff of Osaka University. AS for language education, it is important to have a system to receive questions. Therefore, this program is implemented with the cooperation from International Student Center, Osaka University.
As for business Japanese language education program in particular, support from participating companies shall be requested, as needed. During the long vacation of university, lectures on corporate culture and business manner, which are normally provided for freshman in Japanese companies, shall be held by committee members from corporate consortiums.
3. Internship program
About one-month internship is planned to be implemented twice during two years before finishing the graduate school.
Curriculums of internship will be organized not only to acquire practical skills but also to learn various approaches in the company. Also, guidance by coordinating teaching staff will be held for the appropriate matching of students with companies. After each internship finishes, internship report meeting will be held on campus to create a system to feed back the evaluation to the students and to reflect the evaluation in their goal setting of the study. Furthermore, points to be improved in the internship will be organized and consolidated to develop materials.
4. Job hunting support program
Job hunting support system by coordinating teaching staff including interview will be organized and this program will be also supported by Osaka University Engineering Society which consists of consortiums and alumni of School of Engineering of Osaka University. Furthermore, school-wide support will be offered including the utilization of information on job offer at International Student Center of Osaka University which provides job hunting support for foreign students in general.
5. Survey program
For the independent operation of the project, promotion of the project and survey are essential. The important items for the survey program are: receiving of foreign students; employment; and following up after finishing.
6. Program to promote foreign students
For the first fiscal year, as time is limited, privately-financed overseas students from Asia who have already enrolled in Osaka University will be targeted and scholarship students under this project will be selected from them. For the application for the following year and after, brochures, etc, will be prepared.
Selection committee will be established in the Business-academia collaborative project promotion committee to hold selection in Asian countries and formulate selection criteria for the independent operation in the future.
As for recruiting of foreign students, brochures will be distributed and explanatory meetings will be held mainly at Osaka University, Bangkok Center for Education and Research (Thailand) as overseas base of GLOCOL of Osaka University, universities with inter-university agreements in Asia (8 universities in China, 6 in Korea, 1 in Indonesia, 7 in Thailand, 2 in Vietnam, 3 in the Philippines, 1 in Mongolia and 1 in Taiwan), and universities with inter-faculty agreements with School of Engineering of Osaka University (1 in Malaysia, 2 in the Philippines, 1 in Taiwan and 5 in Vietnam), aiming to the recruitment of excellent students to study in Japan.
7. Project management program
It is essential to maintain coordination among the programs and achieve smooth operation and advancement at the same time in this project. Therefore, Business-academia collaborative project promotion committee will be held once every two months to promote operation of the project based on the progress of each program and report from each committee.

Continuously secure excellent foreign students from Asia and develop them to become "leaders for the development of manufacturing based in Asia" with advanced specialties and high ethical standards, aiming to the enhancement in competitiveness of manufacturing industries in Japan and the globalization of Japanese companies by the foreign students
Goal of human resources development
Develop human resources who have global skills with understandings of Japanese culture and local culture (overseas) and management skills for manufacturing to become "core leaders in the overseas countries" to manage activities in the overseas manufacturing bases.
Develop engineers who have specialized knowledge on advanced embedded software and who can participate in and contribute to the product development in Japan.
Furthermore, develop human resources who can play a central role as an engineer in the international joint development in the future.
