Outline of program

"Program for developing highly-specialized foreign students in the field of atomic power generation"


Develop human resources in the practical fields of atomic energy including designing, licensing, construction and operation of atomic power generation plants and fuel conversion, molding and processing of uranium. Develop systematic specialized education curriculum under business-academia collaboration to learn field technologies and management skills based on the requests from consortium member companies, Business Japanese language / Japanese education program and internship program, aiming to nurture well-rounded human resources equipped with theories and practical abilities. Put great emphasis on Business Japanese language / Japanese business education as a program and implement education to motivate foreign students and make them realize the significance of working in Japan so that job leavers should be minimized.


1. Program for development and demonstration of specialized education program under business-academia collaboration

Consist of lectures of highly specialized curriculum, on-site trainings and visits of plants and facilities to learn up-stream process from designing, production, construction, operation to maintenance of atomic power plants and facilities related to atomic energy, and from development of uranium resources to molding and processing of fuels based on the companies own experiences as well as to learn Japanese business from trading companies. Lecturers are engineers from consortium member companies and also OBs of companies are fully utilized. Create education materials by revising the existing education and training materials in the companies.


2. Business Japanese language / Japanese business education program

・Learn methods for presentation, communications on the phone and creation of letters and reports

・Learn how to make various types of presentation and public speech

・Learn how to write E-mails

・Acquire skills to read and create business documents and to read and create manuals

・Master Japanese language necessary in the atomic energy field through direct instructions from OB of the atomic energy industry

・Master Japanese language to study and accomplish research in the specialty field

・Fully understand the business practices unique to Japanese in a course associated with Business Japanese language

 (Ex.: Evaluation and treatment systems different from those in Japan, long-term employment system unique to Japan, process for consensus building in Japanese companies such as approval system and procedures of a meeting, case study of foreign workers in Japan, etc.)

・Provide education to make foreign students think about the significance of working in Japan

・Understand the roles of Japanese companies in the society and cooperate cultures to have grounding to feel the enjoyment of problem solving

・Implement a study program to virtually experience the internship in a company in the classroom


3. Internship program

Provide important opportunities to deepen mutual understanding among foreign students and companies as well as to have on-site working experience. Internship program is divided into two terms and the course of the first term is common for all the students and is held in power plants.


4. Job hunting support program

As internship and employment are considered as connected, create relations with companies through internship from the start when foreign students began studying in Japan and adopt a system of generous assistance for employment.


5. Survey program

・Survey by an external contractor on the prospects of atomic energy industries, needs for human resources to respond to the prospects and on securing of human resources

・Survey by an external contractor on the issues for Japanese companies related to atomic energy to expand their business overseas

・Survey on networking of foreign students from Asian countries in the field of atomic energy

・Survey by an external contractor on course contents and education levels of departments related to atomic energy to be established in universities in Asia

・Survey by an external contractor on current situation of atomic energy businesses in the U.S.


6. Program to promote foreign students

Target excellent foreign students with high motivations and intentions to work in Japanese companies related to atomic energy and implement PR activities of this program, enhance screening environment and support for coming to Japan to the target foreign students in order to increase the presence of this program.


7. Project management program

Conduct total planning of the program required to operate the program, operation, progress management, coordination among consortium members, self-evaluation of the program, assessment of effects of education to foreign students, etc.

Theme

Develop excellent graduates of science and engineering department in Asia by providing them with practical education for atomic power generation and related technologies based on results and experiences accumulated in Japan for 40 years, aiming to nurture them to have moral values to put priority on safety and sense of security and to be able to play a core role in a domestic/overseas project in Japanese atomic energy companies with a vision to expand its business overseas or in local subsidiaries of Japanese companies.

Goal of human resources development

Through practical education on atomic power generation and the related technologies, develop human resources in atomic energy field in Asia who have moral values to put priority on safety and sense of security and who can play a core role in a domestic/overseas project in Japanese atomic energy companies with a vision to expand its business overseas, in giving instructions to local offices and local companies, and in education and training to local staff.
